Springblümer
Biennale Dreimal Klingeln
Mainz, Germany, 2009

Visitors of the Biennale follow a map and walk between 20 venues including galleries, offices, and private residences. They occupy the road network that defines the district and pass by every including address. This moving audience turns into logistic infrarstructure and is invited to remove a component of the installation consisting of 6000 addressed letters, out of its confined space, spray it with a fragrance and to deliver it to a destination within the Biennale area. They become complicit in an attempt to spread all over the city and occupy 6000 private spaces: personal mailboxes. An oversized map capturing every address shows the diffusion.

Material: 6000 addressed personal letters, Biennale audience used as couriers, 10by10ft map showing every house of the Biennale area, fragrance-stamping device with 3 flavors, one apartment, one urban neighborhood, 3200 addresses, public mailbox to enable replies.
